Wanda Hilliard completed the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Texas, Houston, TX, in 2010. In 2015, she completed the Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL. Wanda is an experienced Family Psychiatric Mental Health Care provider and worked as a PMHNP providing mental health services to the underserved correctional population for approximately seven years. Additional experience includes private practice and FQHC clinics. Her specialty focus at Caprock Alliance is the management of mental death disorders and wellnesses in the child, adolescent, and adult populations. Also, services offered include coaching and consulting services.
Her research interests include using long-term injectable medications to release the incarcerated population to reduce recidivism rates for those diagnosed with severe mental health disorders. Another research interest is using Epigenetics and DNA testing in the child and adolescent population. Her Doctoral of Nursing Practice clinical project (2015) at the University of Alabama focused on utilizing Genetic Testing in Treatment-Resistant Depression. Dr. Hilliard has over 15 years of experience in the financial industry. She has an MBA from Millsap’s College and an accounting degree from Belhaven College. Also, she participated in the International Studies Abroad Program in London and Munich. She is a co-founder (2009) of the Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses of Houston (PAPN of Houston), a nonprofit organization. Her experience includes teaching undergraduate, and graduate PMHNP students. Other interests include quality improvement and research publications, consulting, and coaching. She has held numerous board positions in various professional associations and is interested in community development projects. Her interests include traveling and global/local mission work.
Her practice’s established goal is to help patients achieve mental wellness through an integrative approach. Highly trained in pharmacology and cognitive behavioral therapy, she attempts to guide patients to make changes in their internal perception of the environment (through coaching, therapy, and medication) as well as in the environment (changes in diet, exercise level, interpersonal communication, and alternative therapies). Through a thorough evaluation of each patient’s individual needs, Wanda creates an , balanced program to help initiate changes in the internal and external lives of the patients.
